Live Free Therapy offers group counseling which incorporate some of the basic skills to manage stressful situations and the array of emotions that come from any transition. Some of the basic skills include Core mindfulness which are skills to help us learn to participate in every moment non-judgmentally and effectively and to access our inherent wisdom. Distress tolerance are skills to support getting through diffcult moments without making things worse. Emotional regulation are skills used to learn how emotions work, how to use them effectively and how to change them or act opposite to your urges. Finally, interpersonal effectiveness skills are used to become more skillful in communicating with others and getting what you need and want.
Does your teen:
initiate the majority of conflicts at home?
Tease, name call, or gossip about others?
Avoid social situations?
feel insecure and/or negatively compare self to others?
perform below his/her academic or social potential?
Use negative “I am” statements?
become easily overwhelmed?
often seem irritable, closed-off or lacking motivation/energy?
If the above ring true, your teen may struggle with low self-esteem and be vulnerable to eating disorders, sexual promiscuity, drug and alcohol abuse, depression.
Live Free Therapy is offering Self Esteem groups (limited to 8 people per group). The focus will be on improving self-confidence, social skills, resiliency, stress management, frustration tolerance and coping tools.
Divorce is difficult for children of all ages, but can be especially difficult for children and adolescents, especially as they are experiencing physical, social and emotional changes as they travel from childhood through adolescence and move toward adulthood. A significant event, like a parent’s divorce, can have an effect on the teen during this transition. It is helpful for teens to have support in place to help them process their experience.
Support groups allow teens to connect with other teens who are having similar experiences. This group is also limited to 8 people, to ensure a safe and supportive atmosphere.
